Player biography Jude Bellingham

Jude Victor William Bellingham (born 29 June 2003, in Stourbridge, England) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the club Real Madrid in The League and England national team. Known for his speed, dribbling, passing and composure, he is considered by many to be one of the best players in the world link in 69vncom.team

Bellingham joined Birmingham City at the age of eight, becoming the club's youngest player when he made his first-team debut in August 2019, at the age of 16 years, 38 days, and played regularly during the 2019–20 season. He joined Borussia Dortmund in July 2020, and on his first appearance became their youngest goalscorer. In three seasons with the club, he made 132 appearances and won the league title DFB Cup 2020-21; His performances in the 2022-23 season helped Dortmund finish second and earned him the Player of the Season award Bundesliga.

Later that year, he won both major awards for men's players under the age of 21: the Golden Boy, for candidates who played in Europe during the past calendar year, and the Kopa Trophy, for the best player in the world during the previous season.

Bellingham then signed for Real Madrid for a fee of 103 million euros, and in his first season he was the club's top scorer, helping them win the La Liga title and Champions League. In 2024, he was voted La Liga's Best Player of the season and won third place for the Golden Ball award. Bellingham was included in FIFPRO World 11 twice consecutively in 2023 and 2024.

Bellingham has represented England at U15, U16, U17 and U21 levels. He made his debut for the national team in November 2020 and represented the country at UEFA Euro 2020 and 2024 as well FIFA World Cup 2022.

2. Competing career

2.1. Club career

2.1.1. Birmingham City

Speedy progress

Bellingham soon showed outstanding talent. At the age of 14, he played for Birmingham City's U18 team and made his debut for the U23 team at 15, on 15 October 2018 in a match against Nottingham Forest U23. Coming on after an hour of play, he scored the only goal in the 87th minute - sliding to put the ball over the line after Kyle McFarlane put pressure on the goalkeeper causing the ball to swerve into his path. By March 2019, he had 3 goals in 10 appearances for the youth team, was included in FourFourTwo's list of "50 most exciting young players in English football" and was mentioned as a target of interest for major European clubs.

Gradually, Bellingham was introduced to the first team environment while still a schoolboy: training more and more with his seniors, he accompanied them to observe on match days and went along as a "19th man" for a Championship match in March.

Became the youngest player in Birmingham City history

In July 2019, Bellingham received a two-year scholarship with Birmingham City. He was part of the first team training camp in Portugal, playing and scoring in pre-season friendlies, and was given the number 22 shirt for the 2019–20 season.

On 6 August, Bellingham started in the EFL Cup first round match against Portsmouth and became the youngest player in Birmingham City's first team history. At 16 years, 38 days old, he broke the record set by Trevor Francis in 1970 by 101 days less. He played 80 minutes in the 3-0 defeat and was named man of the match by the Birmingham Mail.

Nineteen days later, Bellingham made his Football League debut, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-0 defeat at Swansea City. His home debut came on 31 August against Stoke City. Replacing the injured Jefferson Montero after half an hour, Bellingham scored the winning goal – via an own goal – as Birmingham came back from 1-0 down to beat Stoke 2-1, and thus became their youngest goalscorer, at the age of 16 years, 63 days.

He started the next match, away to Charlton Athletic two weeks later, and scored the only goal from a cross from Kerim Mrabti.

Shine in the Championship

Bellingham continued to be a regular in the matchday squad, occasionally as a substitute but mainly in the starting line-up. He was brought into the team on the left wing, moved to central midfield "where he could be more confident", and then used "in a more attacking role" when the coaching staff were sure he could handle the responsibility. He was the EFL Young Player of the Month for November 2019. According to head coach Pep Clotet, Bellingham himself "feels more comfortable in midfield and more comfortable being able to get closer to the opposition penalty area."

Bellingham was linked with a move to multiple big clubs in January 2020; on transfer deadline day, Birmingham reportedly rejected a £20m bid from Manchester United. Bellingham continued to be a regular in the first team, and by the time the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had made 32 league appearances.

He remained an integral part of the team when the season returned to behind closed doors, and assisting Lukas Jutkiewicz's late equalizer against Charlton Athletic helped make Birmingham's league position less precarious with two games to go. He finished the season with four goals in 44 appearances in all competitions, 41 in the league, as Birmingham avoided relegation despite losing the final match of the season.

Recognize contributions

In recognition of what Bellingham had achieved in such a short period of time with the first team, the club announced that they would permanently retire his number 22 shirt, "in memory of one of our own and to inspire others." At the EFL Awards, he was named Championship Apprentice Player of the Year and EFL Young Player of the Season.

2.1.2. Borussia Dortmund

It has long been clear that Bellingham will leave at the end of the season, and it is thought that he and his father have visited a number of big clubs, with Manchester United and Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund being his favourites. He is impressed with Dortmund because they utilize young players a lot, as evidenced by Jadon Sancho, which has made his next destination Borussia Dortmund. On July 16, he flew to Germany for a medical examination, the transfer was confirmed four days later, he will join Borussia Dortmund after the final match of the season in Birmingham. The fee was undisclosed, but Sky Sports revealed it was £25 million - making him the most expensive transfer fee for a 17-year-old player in history - plus "several million" depending on performance-related criteria.

2020-2021: Transfers and record-breaking achievements

On September 14, 2020, Bellingham made his Dortmund debut at the age of 17 years and 77 days. He started in the first match of the 2020-21 season against MSV Duisburg at the DFB-Pokal. After 30 minutes of play, he scored the second goal in a 5-0 victory. With this goal, Bellingham became the youngest player to score for Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal, breaking Giovanni Reyna's record by 6 days less.  He is also the youngest player to score in an official club match, surpassing Nuri Şahin's old record by 5 days less.

Five days later, Bellingham made his Bundesliga debut and assisted Reyna in scoring the opening goal in a 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. He was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for September.

On 20 October, Bellingham became the youngest English player to start in the UEFA Champions League when they faced Lazio in the group stage. At that time, he was only 17 years and 113 days old, breaking the previous record of Phil Foden.

During the first three months of the season, Bellingham regularly played in all competitions. He has 6 starts and 7 substitute appearances in the Bundesliga, along with 4 starts in the Champions League. He missed the first two matches of 2021 because of a foot injury, but has since returned and has become an increasingly regular starter.

On 10 April, Bellingham scored his first goal in the Bundesliga, capitalizing on a pass from Reyna to equalize for Dortmund in a 3–2 win over VfB Stuttgart. Four days later, he scored his first Champions League goal in the quarter-final second leg against Manchester City. However, Dortmund was unable to protect their away goal advantage.

Bellingham started in the 2021 DFB-Pokal final, where Dortmund won 4-1 against RB Leipzig. He received a yellow card in the first half and was replaced by Thorgan Hazard when the home team was leading 3-0.

At the end of the season, Bellingham had 29 appearances and 1 goal in the Bundesliga, 46 appearances and 4 goals in all competitions. He was voted by his colleagues as the Best Rookie of the season.

Bellingham finished second to Barcelona's Pedri in the race to win the 2021 Kopa Trophy, an award for the best male player under 21 in the world voted by former Ballon d'Or winners.

2021-2023: Consistent performance and second-place finish

On 4 December 2021, Bellingham played in the Der Klassiker match against Bayern Munich. He assisted both Dortmund goals, but Bayern won 3-2 thanks to a 77th-minute penalty awarded after a VAR consultation. Earlier in the match, referee Felix Zwayer rejected two situations where Dortmund called for a penalty and did not review VAR.

In a live interview with Viaplay right after the match, Bellingham criticized Zwayer's decisions and mentioned his involvement in the 2005 German football match-fixing scandal: "You hand over to a referee who once fixed the biggest match in Germany. What do you expect?"

The German Football Federation (DFB) sent a letter asking Bellingham to explain his comments. He was fined 40,000 euros.

On October 22, 2022, Bellingham scored twice in a 5-0 win over Stuttgart, helping Borussia Dortmund enter the top 4. His first goal opened the scoring after a quick attack that he initiated and finished. The second goal was a technical curler at the beginning of the second half.

In the final round of the Bundesliga, Dortmund needs to defeat Mainz 05 to secure the championship. However, Bellingham had to sit on the bench due to a knee injury and was unused. Dortmund equalized 2-2 after being two goals behind, but Bayern Munich's 1-0 win over 1. FC Köln in the 89th minute put them ahead on goal difference. After the match, Bellingham burst into tears and pushed the camera away as he left the field.

His impressive performance helped him win the Bundesliga Player of the Season award.

After finishing runners-up two years earlier, Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy in 2023 thanks to his outstanding performances in the 2022-23 season for Dortmund and for England at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He became the first English player to receive the award, which was presented at the 2023 Ballon d'Or ceremony in October.

He ranked 18th in the Golden Ball voting.

2.1.3. Real Madrid

On June 14, 2023, Real Madrid announced the successful recruitment of Bellingham with a 6-year contract. Borussia Dortmund will receive a base transfer fee of 103 million euros, which can increase by 30% to around 133.9 million euros depending on additional terms. Birmingham City will also receive around £6 million thanks to the resale clause.

He became the sixth English player to join Real Madrid in the professional football era.

2023-2024: Explosive debut

On August 12, 2023, Bellingham marked his Real Madrid debut with a goal from close range after a corner kick, contributing to a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. He continued to shine with 2 goals and 1 assist for Vinícius Júnior in a 3-1 win over Almería, along with the decisive goal against Celta Vigo in the remaining two matches of August. This impressive form helped him become La Liga's top scorer and the first English player to receive La Liga's Player of the Month award.

The decisive goal in the 95th minute against Getafe on September 2, in his first match at the newly renovated Santiago Bernabéu, helped Bellingham become the third player (after Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2009-10 season and Pepillo in the 1959-60 season) to score in all four of his first official matches for Real Madrid.

Bellingham scored 10 goals in his first 10 games for Real Madrid, equaling Cristiano Ronaldo's tally in his first 10 games for the club in 2009.

On October 28, Bellingham scored a double, including the decisive goal in injury time, helping Real Madrid win 2-1 against rival Barcelona. He became the first Real Madrid player to score in both his La Liga, Champions League and El Clásico debut. His first goal, scored from 30 yards (27 m), was Real Madrid's 300th goal in El Clásico history. He was also the first English player to score in this match since Michael Owen in 2005.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti commented: "He played like a veteran, the equalizing goal completely changed the outcome of the match... Today he was amazing and shocked everyone with a beautiful goal from outside the box."

Bellingham was named La Liga Player of the Month for October.

A few weeks after receiving the Kopa Trophy, Bellingham continued to be honored as the owner of the 2023 Golden Boy award, an award for the best male player under 21 years old competing in Europe's top national leagues during the year.

Bellingham dislocated his left shoulder on November 5 and only returned to play against Cádiz three weeks later due to an injury crisis at the club. Even though he had to wear a brace, he still assisted the first goal and scored the third goal in a 3-0 victory. This victory took Real Madrid to the top of the rankings and brought Bellingham's total number of goals to 14 in 15 matches, breaking the club record jointly owned by Pruden, Alfredo Di Stéfano and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In a 4-2 win over Napoli on November 29, Bellingham became the first player to score in all four of Real Madrid's first four Champions League matches.

On February 10, 2024, Bellingham scored a double in a 4-0 victory over Girona, a direct competitor for the La Liga championship. He was sent off for overreacting at the end of Real Madrid's 2-2 draw with Valencia at the Mestalla on March 2. Bellingham's seemingly winning goal for Real Madrid was disallowed because referee Jesús Gil Manzano had blown the whistle to end the match earlier.

He scored the decisive goal in stoppage time, helping Real Madrid win 3-2 against Barcelona at home on April 21. This was his 21st goal of the season, helping him surpass Laurie Cunningham and David Beckham to become the English player with the most goals for Real Madrid. The next day, he was honored as the winner of the Laureus World Sports Award 2024 for the "Breakthrough of the Year" category.

He finished the domestic season as Real Madrid's top scorer in La Liga with 19 goals and 6 assists, contributing greatly to the team's La Liga championship. This performance helped him win the La Liga Player of the Season award.

In the Champions League final against former club Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham assisted Vinícius Júnior to score the winning goal 2-0. With 4 goals, 5 assists and a passing accuracy rate of up to 90.5%, Bellingham was honored as the Best Young Player of the UEFA Champions League season.

2024-25: Second season and European Super Cup

On August 14, 2024, Bellingham began his second season in Spain with an assist for rookie Kylian Mbappé's debut goal, helping Madrid beat Atalanta 2-0 to win a record-breaking sixth European Super Cup. On November 9, Bellingham scored his first goal of the season and first for Madrid since May 2024 in a dominant 4-0 home win over Osasuna.

2.2. International career

2.2.1. Youth level career

Bellingham can play for England, his homeland, and can also play for the Republic of Ireland team thanks to his grandparents' blood. He made his debut for the England U15 team in December 2016 in a match against Türkiye. In recognition of his role as captain of the England Under-15 team in the 2017-18 season, Bellingham was awarded the Special Achievement Award at the Birmingham City Academy awards night in 2018. By the end of 2018, he had made his debut for the England Under-16 team and went on to appear in 11 matches, scoring four goals and wearing the captain's armband.

He was called up to the England U17 squad to participate in the Syrenka Cup, a friendly tournament held in September 2019 to prepare for the 2020 European U17 Championship qualifiers in March next year. He made his debut for the England U17 team as a substitute in the opening match of the tournament, a 5-0 win over Finland, and scored the third goal. In the second match, Bellingham wore the captain's armband and scored the third goal, helping England U17 come back to defeat Austria 4-2 to win a ticket to the final. He continued to hold the captaincy in the final. England U17 defeated home team Poland on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Bellingham was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Bellingham was called up to the England U21 team for the first time to participate in the European U21 Championship qualifiers against Kosovo and Austria in September 2020. He became the youngest player to represent England U21 when he came on for Tom Davies in the 62nd minute in the match against Kosovo on September 4. At that time, England U21 was leading 3-0. Bellingham scored a goal in the 85th minute, sealing the 6-0 victory.

2.2.2. National team career

In November 2020, after James Ward-Prowse and Trent Alexander-Arnold withdrew due to injury, Bellingham was called up to the England team for the first time. He made his England debut in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on 12 November, coming on for Mason Mount in the 73rd minute of a 3–0 win. At 17 years and 136 days, he became the third youngest player to represent England; Only Theo Walcott and Wayne Rooney played at a younger age.

Bellingham was named in England's squad for UEFA Euro 2020, which was postponed until June 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When he came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute of England's opening match of Euro 2020, a 1-0 win over Croatia at Wembley on 13 June, at the age of 17 years and 349 days, Bellingham became the youngest English player to compete at a major tournament and the youngest player of any nationality to compete at the European Championships. The record was then broken by Kacper Kozłowski of Poland just six days later.

Bellingham's first goal for England came from a header from Luke Shaw's cross, opening the scoring in a 6-2 win over Iran in their first match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on November 21. The strike made him England's second-youngest scorer at the World Cup. He also dribbled and passed to Harry Kane to set up Raheem Sterling for England's third goal, and made a pass to Callum Wilson to set up Jack Grealish for his sixth goal.

In the round of 16 match against Senegal, Bellingham continued to shine with the ball through the defense, assisting Jordan Henderson to score in the 38th minute. He also played an important role in Harry Kane's goal in first half stoppage time, when he passed the ball to Phil Foden to assist.

2.2.3. UEFA Euro 2024

Bellingham was named in England's 26-player squad for UEFA Euro 2024. His strong header from Bukayo Saka's redirected pass brought the "Three Lions" a 1-0 victory over Serbia. Bellingham was voted Player of the Match.

He scored a goal with a bicycle kick in the 95th minute in the round of 16 match against Slovakia, equalizing the score 1-1 and sending the match into extra time. England won 2-1 and Bellingham was again voted Man of the Match. After scoring the equalizer, Bellingham acted provocatively towards the opponent's bench by grabbing his crotch. He thought it was just a joke with "a few close friends". After an investigation, UEFA concluded that he had "breached the basic rules of proper conduct", fined him 30,000 euros and suspended him for one match, suspended for 12 months.

Bellingham played the full 120 minutes in the quarter-final against Switzerland and successfully scored the second shot in the penalty shootout which England won 5-3. England advanced to the final against Spain. The Spanish team took the lead right after the break. Bellingham touched the ball for Cole Palmer to score the equalizer in the 73rd minute, but Spain scored the decisive goal in the closing minutes and England finished the tournament as runners-up.

3. Playing style

Known for his skillful ball control, athleticism and technical qualities, Bellingham is often considered one of the world's best and most complete midfielders. He is also known for his versatility and vision of his surroundings. He is praised for his multiple positions and dynamic playing style, playing both defense and attack, being described by The Analyst as a "versatile midfielder".

His excellent running and dribbling ability also earned him praise, as did his ability to quickly switch from defense to counter-attack. An analysis by Andy Smith for the Bundesliga describes Bellingham as "the complete midfielder: a dynamic midfielder who can win the ball and carry it forward, keep the ball, resist pressure, find space in the opposition's defence, plus create and score goals".

Bellingham was described by Philipp Lahm as a "complete midfielder" who could "dribble, pass, shoot and have the momentum to score", and who was "physical and fearless, holding his ground in duels and winning the ball". Phil Foden described Bellingham as "one of the most talented players I have ever seen". Paul Scholes also praised Bellingham in 2023, saying "I think Jude Bellingham at his age and what he has achieved so far in his short career, he is better than anyone we have ever seen". Not only that, he has also been compared to the legendary Zinedine Zidane.

After moving to Real Madrid in 2023, Bellingham has taken on a more advanced role in midfield, often deployed in the number 10 position as an attacking midfielder, or even as a false nine or second striker in some cases. This change in position saw Bellingham take on a more important role in the final third and score goals: 10 goals in his first 10 matches for Madrid.

His extraordinary talent as a young player has been confirmed by the awards he has won, including the IFFHS World Young Player of the Year (U-20) in 2022 and 2023, and the Golden Boy and Kopa Cup awards in 2023. ESPN rates Bellingham as the number one central midfielder for the 2022-23 season, and 90min rates him as the top central midfielder 2022.

4. Activities outside of football

In June 2024, Bellingham appeared in Kim Kardashian's Skims shapewear and clothing campaign; the photo shoot featured Bellingham modeling men's underwear. In July 2024, Bellingham was revealed as the cover star for the video game EA Sports FC 25.

That same month, Adidas launched Bellingham's first signature collection, including jerseys, tracksuits, ringer t-shirts and shorts, all emblazoned with the JB monogram logo. In August 2024, Louis Vuitton named Bellingham a "Friend of the House", announcing their partnership.

In September 2024, Bellingham started his official channel on YouTube with a behind-the-scenes documentary about his first year in Spain. In December 2024, Bellingham appeared in the Adidas documentary Under the Tongue.

In 2024, Bellingham was nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
